Rewarding your employees can be an effective way of boosting morale, motivating your team and simply showing appreciation for their hard work, as well as reflecting positively on the gift-giver. The question is, where do you start? With a huge array of business gift options available on the market, it can be a hard choice to make.

Think about your reason for gifting

Consider your reason for gifting, are you acknowledging long service to the business, celebrating an anniversary/achievement or thanking them for their contribution ahead of their retirement? Likewise, is it an individual gift, or for a group of employees? If it is an award ceremony, you may require bulk items while a retirement gift might mean you choose something more personal.

Choose something they will appreciate

Who the person or group of people are may affect what you choose to gift. Age, gender, personal style and cultural influences are all factors to consider when purchasing. If it is for an individual, something more personal will have a bigger impact so take some time to get to know what they like. Could it be personalised to make it a special item that they could not otherwise buy in a shop?

Choosing a supplier

When choosing a supplier, find one that can offer specialist experience and advise you on different options to meet your budget. Ask for trade terms and any special discounts for volume. Although business gifts are often sourced for time-specific events, it can sometimes be a ‘last minute’ decision. Set a realistic deadline and ensure your supplier is able to service your requirements.

Consider the delivery and presentation

The presentation of the gift can often be overlooked so allow sufficient time and budget for any special packaging or gift wrapping. Where will the gift be delivered? You may require extra time if gifts need to be sent to multiple addresses or outside of the UK. Most good suppliers will use a tracked delivery service.
